What is the Rochedale Revue? The Rochedale Scout Group proudly produces the Rochedale Revue, a Biennial Scout and Girl Guide show - Live on Stage - with a cast combining around 70 youth and adult members from local Scouting and Guiding Groups. The show incorporates singing, dancing and acting. We aim to put on an entertaining show that is both original in composition and challenging to the cast members, allowing them opportunities that may not be available to them otherwise. Emphasis is not only on the performers but also on our extensive backstage crew of which there are over 40. Youth members and supporters can assist with many varied areas including scenery creation, lighting, promotions, costumes, sketch writing and many others. During rehearsals we promote teamwork and encourage the cast to make new friends. The cast are taught stagecraft and are expected to be as professional as possible on stage. The Rochedale Scout Group started the first show in 1983 and has produced a new show every two years. The Rochedale Revue is performed currently at the Clairvaux MacKillop College over six performances. Previously the revue has performed t the Kingston Butterbox theatre. Over one Hundred thousand dollars ($100 000) work of stage lighting and sound gear owned by Scouts Qld is used for the performance of our show. Cosumnes, Back stage Scenery and special effects are also used to enhance our performers on stage. What are the Benefits? The cast and crew of the show are largely made up of Scouting & Guiding members. The show provides the youth members and Leaders the opportunity to try and learn something new both on and off the stage. For many of the cast it is the first time they will have been on stage. By the end of a season even the shyest of members are more confident. We also try to show what personal discipline is required to put on a professional show. By actively learning new theatre skills and growing confidence in performing to over 200 people per show, there school education should also improve in a number of ways. There are many facets to putting on a show and the cast and crew come to appreciate what is truly involved behind the scenes. Some of our cast and crew are working towards their Australian Scout Award, Queens Scout or Queens Guide awards. By participating in the Rochedale Revue this will also contribute to their award scheme and achievements. The show is so diverse it appeals to a large variety of the public. We have a great time on stage and our audience leave each night having enjoyed an entertaining show put on by the youth from within our community. We provide the community with a positive look at today’s youth, who are dedicated and work hard. They give up many weekends to put on a great show. More importantly we give the youth a positive look at themselves and at what they can really achieve if they put in the effort. |
